Background notes

Archive material and source history

The Killingtons came out of Seattle in the 1980s with a sound that mixed goth rock and indie pop, often with a darkly humorous edge. Their song 'All My Friends Are Vampires' became something of a cult favorite, capturing their particular blend of the macabre and melodic. They released several albums between 1986 and 1991, including 'Killingtons,' 'Killingtons II,' 'Pretty Thieves,' and 'Static.'

Mark Pickerel handled vocals and guitar, with Jeff Kelly on guitar, Jon Phillip on bass, and Jeff Rouse on drums. Their lyrics sometimes leaned into vampire mythology and other dark imagery, which didn't sit well with everyone. But for a certain slice of the underground, that was part of the appeal.

Beyond 'All My Friends Are Vampires,' their catalog includes tracks like 'Bent,' 'Best I Know,' 'Destination Failure,' and 'In Memory.' They put out a live album recorded at the Crocodile Cafe in 1992. The band wasn't around for a particularly long stretch, but they left behind a handful of records that still get mentioned when people talk about that era of Seattle's alternative scene.
