Background notes

Archive material and source history

The Kruks formed in Mobile, Alabama around 2004 with singer-guitarist Brian 'Damage' Lucas, bassist Joey Kilgo, and drummer Dustin 'Doc' Perryman. Lead guitarist Bo Johnson joined later. They put out their first album 'Southern Drought' in 2006, which included the track 'All' that became something of a calling card for them. That song's mix of melody and rough-edged lyrics about love and addiction seemed to connect with people.

They followed with albums like 'The Southern Gothic' in 2008 and 'The Eye of the Storm' in 2012. Their sound pulled from Southern rock traditions but had some punk and metal in there too, with songs like 'Big Shit' and 'Desert Of Blood' showing that range. Their lyrics sometimes stirred things up, though the existing history cuts off before getting into specifics.

They've been mentioned alongside acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band as influences, but also Black Flag, which gives you an idea of where some of their rougher edges come from. The band's lineup stayed fairly steady through those early years, with Lucas, Kilgo, Perryman, and Johnson at the core.
