The Longcut formed in London around 2005 with Martin Tomlinson on vocals and guitar, Jonathon Baker on guitar and vocals, Dan See-To on bass, and Elliot Barlow on drums. Their music pulled from post-punk and goth traditions, with a sound that felt atmospheric and often dark.
Their debut album 'A Call and Response' came out in 2008. The single 'Dead Man' drew attention for its graphic lyrics and unsettling video, which dealt frankly with death and suicide. That song became one of their most recognized tracks.
They followed with 'Sunless' in 2010 and kept touring, though drummer Elliot Barlow left the next year. Dave Berman took over on drums. The band put out two more albums, 'Savages' in 2015 and 'Shapes and Minds' in 2018, gradually working more electronic and experimental textures into their sound.
