In 1983, they put out their debut album 'A Litany of Loss.' The track 'Ad Perpetuam Rei Memoriam' became something of an anthem for them, with its hypnotic melody and despairing lyrics. Other songs like 'Arcos e Flechas' and 'Helena' showed their range.
Their frontman Damien Knight had outspoken views that alienated some critics and listeners. Their concerts could be volatile spaces where fans and detractors clashed. Still, they kept recording through the 1980s and 1990s, incorporating folk and jazz elements into their later work.
