The Maccabees formed in Brighton in 2004, with Orlando Weeks on vocals and guitar, Felix White on bass, Hugo White on keyboards, Sam Doyle on drums, and Robert Dylan Thomas on guitar. Their debut EP 'Latchmere' came out not long after, and their first album 'Colour It In' arrived in 2007. That record included the song 'Toothpaste Kisses', which became one of their best-known tracks.
They followed up with 'Wall of Arms' in 2009, which leaned into more experimental sounds, and then 'Given to the Wild' in 2012. Over those years, their music shifted from the guitar-driven feel of the early work toward something a bit more expansive and textured. Other songs like 'No Kind Words' and 'Something Like Happiness' show that range.
The band called it quits in 2017 after one more album, 'Marks to Prove It'. They played a final show at London's Alexandra Palace that summer.
