The Mutton Birds formed in New Zealand in 1988 with Don McGlashan on vocals and guitar, Ross Burge on bass, David Long on guitar, and Alan Gregg on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1991, followed by records like 'Salty' in 1992 and 'Envy of Angels' in 1994. They put out 'The Creature' in 1997 before disbanding that same year.
Their song 'Come Around' from the 'Envy of Angels' album became their best-known track. McGlashan's throat cancer diagnosis in 1996 forced the band to cancel a tour, but they resumed activities after his surgery. After the split, McGlashan pursued solo work while the other members moved on to different projects.
