The Mysterines formed in Liverpool in 2016, starting as a trio with Lia Metcalfe, bassist Callum Connor, and drummer Phil Tyler. Their early live shows around Liverpool built some local notice. After Tyler left in 2018, they brought in drummer Chris Abbott, which tightened up their sound. In 2020 they put out their debut single 'Gasoline,' a track that caught on with its driving rhythm and Metcalfe's vocals.
They followed that with the EP 'Reeling' in 2021 and a full-length album of the same name in 2022. Other songs like 'Bet Your Pretty Face' and 'Take Control' show the same kind of direct, guitar-heavy approach. The band's music doesn't try to reinvent indie rock, but it lands with a straightforward punch that works in a live setting.
