The Overtones started as a one-off charity performance in 2010, but the five singers, Mike Crawshaw, Mark Franks, Darren Everest, Timmy Matley, and Lachie Chapman, kept going after that first show. Their sound leans on doo-wop and Motown, with harmonies that nod to groups like The Platters. They put out five studio albums, beginning with 'Good Ol' Fashioned Love' in 2011, which included their take on 'Runaround Sue'.
Darren Everest left in 2017 for health reasons, and Jay James joined the group. Their setlists often mix classic covers with original material, like 'Gambling Man' and their version of 'I Say a Little Prayer'. They've kept a steady pace of releases, with albums such as 'Sweet Soul Music' and 'Northern Soul'.
On stage, they're known for wearing suits and bringing a retro feel to their live shows. The lineup has shifted, but the focus has stayed on tight vocal arrangements and a throwback style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
