The Planks formed in Brazil around 2007 when Vinicius Rosa and Yuri Ganem met at a music festival. They were later joined by Rafael Fortes and Daniel Gorjão. For a few years they worked without much backing, playing and writing songs on their own.
In 2010 they released the single "Chega de Doce," which caught on with Brazilian listeners. The song's straightforward pop-rock feel, with some samba touches, gave them a wider audience. They put out albums like De Novo in 2012, Ainda in 2014, and Infinito in 2017.
Their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues, which drew both support and criticism. The band kept playing and recording through the 2010s with the same four members.
