The Poems were a British band that formed in the 1990s, with Neil Hannon on vocals and guitar, David Geraghty on bass, Peter Buck on keyboards, and Michael McGaughrin on drums. They put out their first album, 'The Great Escape,' in 1998.
Their best-known song is 'Ballad of a Bitter End,' which Hannon wrote after a friend died. It's a folk-rock tune that got some attention for its direct lyrics about loss.
After that first album, they released a few more records, including 'A Thousand Little Pieces' in 2003 and a self-titled album in 2010. They weren't a huge mainstream act, but they kept working for a while.
