Background notes

Archive material and source history

The Ravers formed in Southern California in the late 1980s with Kevin Seconds on vocals and guitar, Steve Soto on bass, and Johnny Wickersham on drums. They were part of that region's punk scene, playing with a raw energy that drew a following. Their debut album was called '...And I Surrender,' and they later put out records like 'A Chorus of Disapproval' and 'To Hell with the Long Goodbyes.'

In 1984, they released 'Punk Rock Christmas,' a song that became their best-known track. It got a mixed reception at the time, with some in the punk community calling it a sellout while others liked its take on holiday music. The band faced personal difficulties, including Soto's death in 1989.

The lineup changed after that, with Seconds and Wickersham continuing alongside Chip Hanna on bass and Billy Bones on guitar. They kept playing and recording, but 'Punk Rock Christmas' remains what most people know them for.
