Archive material and source history
The Readings were a Chicago soul group active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their debut album 'Wanda's Song' came out in 1968, followed by 'Soul Symphony' in 1969 and 'Reflections' in 1970. They recorded a collaborative album called 'Together' with The Dells in 1972.
Wanda Hutchinson sang lead vocals for the band. The group included guitarist Charles Smith, bassist Ray Henderson, drummer Eddie Willis, and saxophonist Amos White.
Their music sometimes addressed social issues in the lyrics, which drew both support and criticism at the time. The band experienced some internal conflicts and lineup changes during their run.
