The Real Tuesday Weld

The Real Tuesday Weld formed in 1985 with vocalist Jill Bryson, guitarist Mark Cox, and drummer Tom McKay. They played London's underground clubs, developing a sound that drew from gothic rock and new wave but didn't settle neatly into either category. Their debut single 'Me & Mr. Wolf' came out in 1987, with Bryson's ethereal vocals floating over a haunting melody she said came from a childhood nightmare.

That single landed them on the influential NME C86 compilation, which brought wider attention. They released two albums, 1988's self-titled debut and 1990's 'Tomorrow is Too Late.' Songs like 'Last Words' and 'I Love The Rain' carried the same atmospheric quality, mixing beauty with darker undercurrents. The band's activity was intermittent, with periods of silence between releases.

Bassist Stephen Fellows joined the lineup at some point, though the core remained Bryson, Cox, and McKay. They never became a mainstream act, but their music found listeners who responded to its particular blend of melancholy and melody. After the early 1990s, they largely faded from view, leaving behind those two albums and a handful of singles.
