The Sansayas came out of Los Angeles in the early 1990s, an alternative rock band fronted by Jesse Tobias. Their debut album was called 'Awfully Cold,' and it did well enough to get them noticed nationally. They put out a few more records in the following years, like 'The Wonder,' 'Up in Light,' and 'The Long Way Down.'
Tobias wrote raw, emotional lyrics that often dealt with alienation and loss. The band's sound had some grunge and psychedelic elements, but it was mostly straightforward guitar rock. They had a song called 'Boy From Memphis' that showed their style.
Over time, the lineup shifted around Tobias, with original members including David Sanchez on guitar, Scott Plouf on bass, and Denni Lee on drums. Tobias had some well-documented personal struggles, and the band's lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups. They kept making music through the early 2000s.
