The Shirts formed in Los Angeles around 1980, with Tony Romeo on vocals after his time with The Records. They put out their first album, 'Private Lives,' that same year. Their 1982 single 'They Say The Sun Shines' became their biggest hit, though some critics at the time questioned a line in the lyrics about taking chances.
Their sound leaned into bright pop melodies, heard on tracks like 'As Long As The Laughter Lasts' and 'Can't Cry Anymore.' They released several albums through the 1980s, including 'In Love' in 1983 and 'Planet Earth' in 1985. The band broke up toward the end of that decade.
'They Say The Sun Shines' still gets played on the radio. The other members were Marc Zyla on guitar, Rick Dailey on bass, and Jeff Dahl on drums.
