Archive material and source history

The Skyliners formed in Pittsburgh in the late 1950s with Jimmy Beaumont on lead vocals, Joe Rock, Donnie Brooks, Wally Lester, and Norm Keenan. They signed with Calico Records and put out their debut single 'Since I Don't Have You' in 1959. That song became their biggest hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

They followed it with 'This I Swear' and other singles that kept them working through the early 1960s. The group faced a setback when Donnie Brooks died in a car accident in 1961, and Freddie Paris joined to take his place. Legal issues over their music ownership in the mid-1960s made it harder for them to release new material or tour consistently.

In the 1970s, disco's popularity brought some renewed attention to The Skyliners' earlier recordings. Their songs like 'Close Your Eyes' and 'Always Something There To Remind Me' continued to get airplay on oldies stations.
