The Slip

The Slip formed in Boston around 1990, with Dan Levine on vocals and guitar, Adam Markiewicz on drums, and Brad Barr on bass. Their music pulled from art rock and progressive metal, but they were known for stretching those forms with improvisation and experimental touches. Songs like 'Even Rats' and 'Life in Disguise' show how they could build from a solid riff into something more open and atmospheric.

They put out albums like 'Immersion' in 1992, 'Eisenhower' in 2001, and 'Angels Come On Time' in 2006. The records don't follow a straight line, some lean into ethereal textures, others hit harder, but they share a willingness to let the sound shift. Live, that tendency turned into extended jams and instrumental passages that could reshape the songs night to night.

Levine's guitar work and vocals gave the band its focal point, while Markiewicz and Barr built a rhythm section that could anchor a groove or drift into more abstract territory.
