The Square Set formed in Glasgow in 1990, with John Power as their frontman. Their debut album 'Love and Destruction' came out in 1993 and included the single 'That's What I Want.' That record got some attention from critics at the time.
They put out a few more albums in the nineties, like 'Secondhand Heart' in 1996 and 'Summer Season' in 1998. The band's drummer Neil Duffy left around 1995. Power had some personal troubles that became part of the story around the group, including an arrest in 2001. They kept playing here and there after that, but less consistently.
