The Stand

The Stand formed in 1998 with vocalist Celeste Monsour, guitarist Ethan Hale, bassist Luke Ramsey, and drummer Silas Quinn. They released their self-titled debut album the following year, followed by 'A Radio's Silence' in 2002. That album's title track, along with songs like 'Goodnight, Beautiful' and 'Painting of What Life Should Be,' became central to their catalog.

Their music tended toward atmospheric arrangements and introspective lyrics, which found a cult following even as it kept them from broader commercial success. They put out two more albums, 'The Weight of Absence' in 2005 and 'Ghosts of the Future' in 2009, before fading from regular activity.

Some listeners connected with the quiet tension in tracks like 'Goonies Never Say Die' and 'Unspoken Words,' while others found the mood too heavy. The band never really courted the mainstream, and their records remain artifacts of a particular late-90s, early-2000s alternative mood.
