A Nashville string band that plays bluegrass with a country soul and a rougher edge.
For their sound, start with 'If It Hadn't Been For Love' or 'Blue Side Of The Mountain'. 'Angel Of The Night' shows their soulful ballad side.
They took bluegrass and folk traditions and gave them a rougher, more country-leaning sound that felt different from traditional string bands. Songs like 'If It Hadn't Been For Love' and 'Blue Side Of The Mountain' became early signatures of that approach. Their 2008 debut established them, and they kept recording through tough times, including a fatal bus accident in 2016.
They formed in Nashville with Gary Nichols on guitar and vocals, Richard Bailey on bass, Tammy Rogers on fiddle, and Mike Henderson on guitar. After their 2008 self-titled debut, they put out albums like Reckless in 2010, a 2013 self-titled album, Rattlesnake Canyon in 2015, Bad for You in 2018, and Throwback in 2022.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
