The Stone Poneys formed in Los Angeles in 1964 as a folk trio with Linda Ronstadt, Bobby Kimmel, and Kenny Edwards. They started with the kind of harmony folk that was popular at the time, but their sound began to shift as they worked on their own material. Their 1967 single 'Back on the Street Again,' written by Edwards, became a Top 10 hit and gave the group its biggest moment of recognition.
That success came just as the band was starting to fray. Kimmel left in 1968, and the group effectively dissolved not long after. Ronstadt, of course, went on to a major solo career, but the Stone Poneys' brief run left behind a handful of songs that still get played, like 'December Dream' and 'Song About The Rain.'
