A California hardcore band that never stopped mixing pop hooks with confrontational humor.
If you want to hear their blend of humor and hooks, try 'Oi To The World' or 'My Girlfriend's Dead'. They're good examples of how the band has stuck to its guns for decades.
They came out of that early 80s Orange County scene with songs like 'Urban Struggle' and 'Anarchy Burger (Hold the Government)', which had a sharp, sarcastic edge aimed at authority. Their track 'Happy Birthday to Me' from the 1989 album 'Hitler Bad, Vandals Good' even got some alternative radio play and showed up in the movie 'Clerks'. Over the years, they've kept that mix of catchy melody and punk energy alive in songs like 'Kick Me' and 'My Brain Tells My Body'.
They started around 1980 in Orange County with Dave Quackenbush on vocals, Warren Fitzgerald on drums, and Steve Pfauter on guitar. By the mid-80s, albums like 'When in Rome, Do as the Vandals' brought in more pop and new wave elements, and the lineup shifted to include Joe Escalante on guitar and Josh Freese on drums. They've kept releasing records ever since, from 'The Quickening' in 1996 to 'Peace on Earth, Punk Rock War' in 2019.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
