The Vania formed when vocalist Anya Ravenwood, guitarist Ethan Thorne, bassist Damien Shadowbane, and drummer Jack Blackwood came together. They released their debut album 'Nightmare' in 2014, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song.
That album drew criticism from some conservative groups who objected to its themes, but it still found an audience. The band followed it up with another album in 2017.
