The Vanishing formed in Manchester in the early 2000s with Simon Aldred on vocals and guitar, Chris Abbott on guitar, Miles Whittaker on bass, and Mark Bell on drums. Their first album was 2004's 'Cuckoo Spit', which included the title track and songs like 'Idle Eyes' and 'Lover in Hell'. The music had a hazy, melodic quality that drew some comparisons to earlier Manchester bands.
After Abbott left in 2005 and Whittaker followed in 2007, Aldred kept the band going with a changed lineup. They put out 'Animal' in 2007, which leaned into darker material, and then 'The Fall' in 2010. The group's recorded output stopped after that third album.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
