Made up and dressed for this special night

Tongue tied, my heart’s beating fast

Same jokes and tired laughs

Rehearsed and fully prepared

Lines learned but I’m feeling scared

Dutch courage flows in my veins, needed more but the bottle is drained

Switch on, switch on, dim the lights low

Find the curtain, end of the show

Went wrong too many times, missed cues, forgotten punchlines

I was dumb my words wouldn’t flow

Different time but the same old show

My posters faded and torn, stage clothes hanging unworn

And the queues they stretch around the block
