The Vegabonds formed in New York City around 2011 as an indie folk-rock group. Their early lineup included singer-songwriter Daniel Allen, guitarist and bassist Caleb Crosby, and drummer Matt Kurz. They put out a debut EP called 'Underneath the Stars' in 2012, then followed it with a full-length album, 'The Echo,' the next year. That album's title track, 'Where We Used To Go,' became a particular favorite among listeners.
Their sound drew from classic folk and Americana, with Allen's introspective lyrics and Crosby's guitar work at the center. They released more albums like 'Devil in the Dark' in 2015 and 'El Dorado' in 2017. In 2017, drummer Matt Kurz left the band and was replaced by Justin Phipps.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
