Craig Nicholls' band rode the early 2000s garage revival with 'Get Free' and kept going.
For the early blast, 'Get Free' is the one. If you want to hear how that energy held up later, try 'Ladybug'.
When 'Highly Evolved' dropped in 2002, 'Get Free' felt like a jolt of pure, unfiltered energy. That debut captured a moment when garage rock was having a moment again, and The Vines were right there in the mix. Even as the lineup changed around him, Nicholls kept writing songs like 'Ladybug' that held onto that ragged, immediate feel.
They came out of Sydney with a three-piece lineup and 'Highly Evolved'. The band's story is mostly one of Nicholls holding the center while bassists and drummers came and went through albums like 'Winning Days' and 'Vision Valley'. They're still recording now with a different rhythm section.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
