The War Within formed in London around 2010, with Ben Ward on vocals and Tom Cook on guitar. They were joined by bassist Chris White and drummer James Fox. The band released two early EPs, "The Abyss" in 2012 and "Ashes to Ashes" in 2014, while playing shows around the city.
Their debut album "Into the Shadows" came out in 2016. The single "Out of My Grave" from that record connected with listeners, its lyrics touching on themes of loss and personal struggle. Other songs like "Nobody Else For Me" and "Closer" appeared in their setlists around this time.
They followed up with another album called "The Light Within" in 2019. The band's material often dealt with darker emotional territory, which drew both criticism and appreciation from different corners of the metal scene.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
