Archive material and source history

The Washington Projects formed in Washington, D.C. in the early 1990s, originally calling themselves The Clipse before changing their name. Their debut album 'The Money Shot' came out in 1998 on Def Jam Recordings with producer No I.D. The single 'She Can't Love You' became their most recognizable track.

They released several albums including 'Black Diamonds' in 2002 and 'The 20/20 Experience' in 2010. The group featured rappers J Clipse, Prophase, and Phenetiks, with DJ Kool Kut. After dissolving in the late 2000s, some members pursued solo work, with J Clipse later collaborating with the Virginia rap duo Clipse.
