The Watts formed in São Paulo in 2008 around MCs Ewá and Teco. Their music pulls from hip-hop, funk, and samba, with lyrics that often touch on social issues. One of their early tracks, "Matemática," gained attention for its beat and directness.
They released their first album, "O Som das Ruas," in 2012. Later records like "A Peleja Continua" and "Mãos Pretas" followed a similar path, mixing Brazilian rhythms with pointed writing. Another song, "Um Passo," appears among their more recognized work.
Their straightforward approach to topics like inequality sometimes drew criticism for being too political. They kept at it anyway, putting out music through 2018 without much shift in their basic sound or stance.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
