Angst for the Memories (This Town Will Die)

It's been a long time in the running

But I knew it'd come to this

Where instead of finding things to miss

I'm willing this instead

So I gathered up your letters

And trekked up to the beach

And when the smoke had turned to ashes

I swear I heard them speak

They said "A rambling man don't stutter

over things he'd often miss,

so darling pull yourself together

'cause god knows we all wish that this town would die.

So I got my things together and laid them at your feet

But the smiling coals had long since blown and again I faced defeat

For this town to die

Since then I've often wondered

What could and might have been

Had I seen the need to fan the flames instead of having it condemned
