The Woolies formed in Los Angeles in 1964 with Ben King on lead vocals, Frank Badami on lead guitar, Larry Tamblyn on rhythm guitar, Rob Grill on bass, and Don Murray on drums. They recorded for Challenge Records, though that relationship reportedly became contentious over ownership of their music.
Their best-known track is "Who Do You Love," a 1964 single that later became something of a classic rock radio staple. The song has been covered by acts like The Rolling Stones and George Thorogood. The band also released other singles like "You Don't Love Me" and "My Little Red Book."
By the late 1960s, King had left to pursue solo work, and the group disbanded. They reunited occasionally for shows and in 1999 put out an album called "The Woolies: Back in Town" with re-recorded versions of their older material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
