The Words We Use formed around vocalist Ava Lee and guitarist Ethan James, later adding bassist Marcus Hayes and drummer Jake Wilson. Their debut album 'Echoes' came out in 2018, followed by '56 Chances' in 2020. The title track from that second album became one of their most recognizable songs.
Their music pulls from alternative rock and pop, with lyrics that tend toward personal reflection. Songs like 'For The First Time In a Long Time' and 'Absence' show their preference for straightforward emotional themes. They've also worked with other vocalists, as on 'Building Coral Castle' with Kellin Quinn and 'I Like Your Style, Kid' with Caleb Shomo and Sean Mackowsky.
In 2021, the band dealt with plagiarism allegations regarding one of their songs. They addressed it publicly and settled the matter. Since then, they've continued to release music, including the track 'Love Is War'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
