The Worman came out of the late 1970s punk scene with a raw sound and lyrics that didn't shy away from confrontation. They kept exploring similar territory on later records, putting out songs like 'Shot!' and 'The Worman Walks In The Moonlight.'
John 'Worm' Wyatt fronted the band on vocals and guitar, with Sarah 'Venom' Jones on bass and Tom 'Thunder' Smith on drums. Their live shows were known for being aggressive, and that energy sometimes got them into trouble with authorities and conservative groups who objected to their material. Wyatt was arrested once in the 1980s during a concert over obscenity charges.
Their sound shifted a bit by the mid-80s, incorporating some new wave and electronic touches on albums like 'Urban Jungle.' They had a loyal following through it all, people who connected with the band's direct approach. The Worman stopped playing together in the late 1990s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
