The Young International formed in the early 2000s with Jarrod Gorbel on vocals and guitar, Noah Harmon on bass, and Matt Slocum on drums. Their debut album 'Gravity' came out in 2006, anchored by the single of the same name that became their most recognizable track. They followed it with 'The Afterthought' in 2008, then 'White Noise' in 2012, and 'The Weight' in 2016.
Their sound mixed alternative rock with electronic textures, heard on songs like 'Ruckus' and 'Shadowboxing.' The band faced some legal trouble in 2008 over a sample used in 'Gravity,' but kept recording. Other songs in their catalog include 'Say Goodbye To The Sun' and 'Straight Line.'
They made four albums over a decade, moving between raw energy and more layered arrangements. The music held onto a certain melodic directness even as it shifted across records.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
