Thee Oh Sees

Thee Oh Sees came out of San Francisco's underground with John Dwyer at the helm. They've put out a steady stream of records since the 2000s, from the fuzzed-out garage of their early work to the more experimental jams on later albums like 'Orc' and 'Protean Threat'. Songs like 'Tidal Wave' and 'Sticky Hulks' show how they can lock into a driving rhythm and then let it sprawl.

Dwyer has kept the project going with a rotating group of players, including Brijean Murphy on bass and vocals, Tim Hellman on drums, and Dan Rincon on saxophone. The sound isn't one fixed thing, it's garage rock that gets psychedelic, or psychedelia that turns sharp and noisy. They've built a reputation for being both prolific and hard to pin down.

In 2013, Dwyer was diagnosed with cancer and had to postpone a European tour, but he returned to playing soon after. The band has faced other disruptions, including show cancellations in 2018 after misconduct allegations surfaced against Dwyer, which he denied. Through it all, they've kept recording and touring, letting the music speak for itself.
