Theira formed in 2015 as a collaboration between vocalist Ellie Jackson and multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin. Their debut EP 'Element' came out that same year, followed by the 2016 track 'Oceans (Remix)' which became their most recognizable song.
Rob Swire contributed as a DJ and electronic producer to the group's sound. They released a second EP called 'Seraphina' in 2017 and their first full-length album 'Theia' in 2019.
In 2019, the band was involved in a legal dispute with a record label over financial and creative issues. Jackson's live vocal performances occasionally drew criticism, though she continued performing with the group.
