Them

Them formed in Belfast around 1964 with Van Morrison singing and Billy Harrison on guitar. They had a rougher sound than many British Invasion bands, mixing rock with blues and a bit of Irish folk feel. Their version of "Gloria" became a garage-rock standard, though it was originally a B-side. The band recorded four albums in quick succession, including "The Angry Young Them" in 1965 and "Them Again" the following year.

Morrison left in 1966 to go solo, and the group carried on under the same name with different lineups. The original Them's catalog holds songs like "Here Comes the Night" and "Richard Cory," showing a range from raucous R&B to more reflective material. Their recordings from that mid-60s period still turn up on garage and psychedelic compilations.
