Theo e Os Beckers came out of São Paulo in the mid-1990s with a sound that mixed funk, samba, and rock. Their first album came out in 1996, and by 2002 they had a song called "Andressa" that became a kind of national hit. The band was Theo Becker on vocals and guitar, Dudu Nobre on bass, Roni Beck on drums, and Antônio Pinto on saxophone.
The band kept putting out records through the early 2000s, including "Marcas Na Areia," another track that got played a lot. They weren't exactly traditional samba purists, and that friction with critics was part of what made them noticeable.
They released five studio albums between 1996 and 2004, ending with a live record. After that, things got quieter. Theo Becker, the frontman, kept working in music, but the band's run as a chart presence was mostly over by the mid-2000s.
