Theresa Sokyrka was born in 1941 in the Ukrainian village of Dobromyl. She moved to Canada as a teenager and began singing in local church choirs. In 1965, she co-wrote 'What the World Needs Now' with songwriter Hal David.
Her other recordings include songs like 'Angel Eyes' and 'Awake In A Dream.' She worked with musicians including Paul Anka and Harry Belafonte. Sokyrka kept performing and recording later in her life.
