Thin White Rope formed in Los Angeles in 1984 around singer-songwriter Guy Kyser. Their early lineup included David Aaron on bass, John Pizzarelli on guitar, and Jozef Becker on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 1987, which included the song 'Christimas Skies' that developed a following.
They put out several albums through the late 80s and early 90s, including 'Exploring the Axis' in 1989, 'The Ruby Sea' in 1991, and 'Moonhead' in 1992. Their sound had atmospheric qualities that drew from post-punk but also incorporated folk and country elements at times.
The band dissolved in 1995. They reunited in the early 2000s for some live shows and released 'The One That Got Away' in 2007. Songs like 'Ahr-Skidar' and 'Bartender's Rag' show the range of their catalog.
