This Time Next Year

This Time Next Year was a British rock band that formed in Liverpool in the mid-1990s. The original lineup included James Bayston on vocals and guitar, Andy Crosby on bass, and Chris Sanders on drums. They released their debut album 'Echoes of a Distant Land' in 1996.

That first album featured 'Sands of Bougainville,' a song inspired by the Bougainville conflict. The track became their most recognizable work, with its haunting melody and direct lyrical approach to political themes. They followed it with albums like 'The Edge of the World' in 1998, 'The Great Beyond' in 2001, and 'Last Light of Day' in 2004.

Their music often incorporated elements of alternative rock and folk, with songs like '3 O'clock' and 'Better Half' showing their range. They were known for writing about real-world issues, which sometimes drew criticism along with support. The band remained active through the early 2000s, releasing music that balanced melodic rock with thoughtful lyrics.
