Thornium formed in 1991 with Mattias Folkestad on vocals and guitar, Johan Jansson on bass, and Jonas Lindström on drums. They're a Swedish metal band whose music has included doom, sludge, and death metal elements. Their track 'Archetype of Death' became well-known in the genre.
Over time, their sound incorporated progressive metal and atmospheric doom. They've released albums like 'Beyond the Pain of Emptiness' in 1998, 'Deiform' in 2004, and 'Dominium' in 2021.
After Lindström's death in 2006, Mathias Kamijo joined as drummer. The band has worked with musicians including Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth and Anders Nyström of Katatonia. Other songs in their catalog include 'Beyond Cosmic Borders,' 'Black Goddess,' and 'Dominions of the Eclipse.'
