Der rote folgte dem rat des alten

Tief im norden islands überwintern.

Erik fuhr auf dem drachenboot
Und der rest folgte zu pferde.
Lang und beschwerlich war der weg,
Bis ein hornstoß am breidafjord
Von froher botschaft kündete.
Gefunden war eine insel, eine neue heimat.
Ochseninsel ward´dies land genannt.
Satt, grün und windgeschützt,
Mitten im großen breidafjord.
Der rote erkundete land und see,
Um dies eiland in besitz zu nehmen.
Er traf dabei den herrn der landes entlang des ufers.
Die beden sprachen lang und ernst
Und auf ein gutes miteinander.
Denn zum nächsten ostara wollte er
Auf der insel einen hof errichten.
Dem bauern gab er sein hab und gut
Und bezahlte ihn, es zu verwahren.
Verbannt aus seinem tal,
Man ließ ihm keine wahl.
Auf dem weg nach islands norden,
Zu unbekannten fjorden.
