Tibério Azul

Tibério Azul formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1998 with a lineup that included Tibério Azul on vocals and guitar, Juliana Arantes on bass, and André Almeida on drums. Their sound drew from samba, MPB, and rock, though they avoided easy categorization.

In 2003, they released their debut album "O Mundo É um Lugar Encantado," which included the track "Quando Maria Me Fundou o Carnaval." The song became a hit in Brazil, its lyrics touching on identity, love, and loss against the backdrop of Carnival.

Two years later, the band found themselves in a public dispute with the Salvador Carnival Committee over the use of "Quando Maria Me Fundou o Carnaval" as an official Carnival anthem. Other songs from their catalog include "A Vida Pede Mais Abraço Que Razão" and "Alquimista Tupi."
