Archive material and source history
Til Tuesday formed in 1981 with Aimee Mann on vocals and guitar, Robert Holmes on guitar, Michael Hausman on bass, Joey Pesce on keyboards, and George Backus on drums. Their debut album 'Voices Carry' came out in 1985, anchored by the title track that became a hit. That song, along with others like 'Coming Up Close' and 'Love In a Vacuum,' showed Mann's knack for writing about relationships with a certain directness.
After the first album, Holmes and Pesce left the band in 1987. Their second album 'Welcome Home' arrived in 1986 with a different sound that didn't connect as broadly. They kept putting out records into the late 80s and early 90s, including 'Everything's Different Now' in 1988.
