Editor's note

Timbiriche, Mexico's teen pop phenomenon of the 1980s.

A shifting lineup of young singers defined a generation with bright, catchy songs.

For the early sound, 'Corro, Vuelo, Me Acelero' captures that initial energy. Later, 'Suma cósmica' shows how they matured without losing the pop touch.

Timbiriche gave a voice to Mexican youth in the '80s, turning out hits that felt like their own. Songs like 'Tu me vuelves loco' and 'No me dejes' soundtracked school dances and first crushes. They weren't just a band; they were a shared experience for a lot of people growing up then.

It started in 1982 with six teenagers, including Paulina Rubio and Benny Ibarra, on their self-titled debut. Members came and went over the years, Thalía and Eduardo Capetillo passed through, before the original run ended in 1994. They surprised everyone with a new album, 'De Viaje,' in 2017.

Timbiriche formed in 1982 under producer Luis de Llano Macedo, starting with six teenagers: Benny Ibarra, Diego Schoening, Mariana Garza, Sasha Sokol, Alix Bauer, and Paulina Rubio. Their self-titled debut album came out that same year. The group's early material included songs like 'Corro, Vuelo, Me Acelero' and 'Muñecos de papel.'

Over the next several years, the lineup shifted. Alix Bauer left in 1985, replaced by Edith Márquez. Paulina Rubio departed in 1989 to go solo. Other members who passed through the group included Erik Rubín, Thalía, and Eduardo Capetillo. They released eight studio albums during their original run, which ended in 1994.

After disbanding, Timbiriche reunited occasionally for performances. In 2017, they put out a new album called 'De Viaje,' their first in over two decades.
