Archive material and source history

Tinoco was a Brazilian sertanejo duo made up of brothers Pedro Bento de Souza and José Benedito de Souza. They came from Barretos, São Paulo, and started performing locally as teenagers. In 1949, they made their radio debut on the program 'Hora do Sertão' on Rádio Nacional.

Their song 'Convite,' released in 1954, became their breakthrough hit. The ballad was written by Raul Seixas. They recorded over 60 albums, including titles like 'Rua da Amargura' and 'Chalana.'

Pedro Bento de Souza died in 2019, and José Benedito de Souza died in 2012. Their music, including tracks like 'O Que Ela Tem?' and 'Viagem do Tietê,' remains part of the sertanejo tradition they helped shape.
