Tito Nieves

Tito Nieves was born Tito Manuel Nieves Cruz in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1958. He started singing professionally around age 15 with a band called Conjunto Chaney. His voice developed into something that could handle both salsa's rhythmic intensity and the softer demands of romantic ballads.

In 1990, he released the album "Fabricando Fantasías." The title track became a major hit, a ballad about love and longing that gave him a much wider audience. Songs like "De mi enamorate" and "El amor más bonito" followed a similar path, blending salsa arrangements with straightforward romantic themes.

He worked with producer Sergio George for years and recorded with artists like Celia Cruz. The 1994 drug charges were a public setback, but he kept recording and performing. His catalog includes straightforward salsa records and more ballad-focused albums like "Canciones Que Son Historia."
