Toki Asako was born Asako Toki in Tokyo on December 10, 1976. She started piano lessons at five and sang in a choir as a teenager. In 2000, she debuted as a solo artist under the name Toki Asako, performing pop ballads and R&B.
Her 2005 single 'Home' became a major hit in Japan, topping charts and winning awards. The song's theme of longing connected with listeners. She has released albums including 'Sora' in 2002, 'Asako' in 2007, and 'Genesis' in 2018. Other songs in her catalog include 'City Lights Serenade', 'Another Star', and 'That Summer'.
In 2007, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery before returning to performing. She has also been known for speaking out on social issues, such as criticizing the government's response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2013. Her touring band has included guitarist Takayuki Oomori, bassist Masayuki Miyamoto, drummer Akira Onozato, and keyboardist Hiroaki 'Tommy' Ogawa.
